Being a member of USTOA means joining a distinguished group of tour operators and travel services providers from around the world. We are a voluntary trade association with two categories of membership:

Active Members (U.S. tour operators)

Associate Members (travel suppliers)

Active Members

;

An Active Member is defined as a tour operator that conducts business in the United States, and has been in business for at least three years. The one key feature that distinguishes Active Members from Associate Members is the USTOA $1 Million Travelers Assistance Program.

All Active Members adhere to USTOA's strict code of ethics, which is framed by a pledge to encourage and maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and service.

All USTOA Active Members participate in USTOA's $1 Million Traveler's Assistance Program, which offers consumers protection and peace of mind in the event of the company's insolvency or cessation of business.  USTOA Active Tour Operators carry the USTOA logo on their printed materials and/or websites, indicating their participation in the $1 Million Travelers Assistance Program..

Associate Members

The second category of membership into USTOA is the Associate Member.

This invitation is extended to responsible ground operators, hotels, industry and governmental entities and organizations (to name a few) whose interests and purposes are compatible with those of USTOA.

Please note that if you are a tour operator with a U.S. office and conducts business in North America, you will qualify only for an Active, not Associate Membership.  Associate Members join USTOA in order to promote their services or destinations to our Active Members.

Associate Membership is offered to travel service providers, ground operators, common carriers, head offices of organizations, associations and locations of suppliers of tour products and services, government agencies and others interested in developing travel.

The Associate Member annual dues are $800 per calendar year and are not prorated.

Current Associate Member categories are:

  • Advertising and Public Relations
  • Airlines
  • Airport Authority
  • Attractions/Museums/Restaurants
  • Car Rental
  • Cruise Line/Cruise Operator
  • Financial Services

  • Legal Services
  • Marketing - Travel Related Services
  • Media
  • Technology - Reservations Systems
  • Tourist Board
  • Trade Association

Most Associate Members of USTOA are permitted to use the ASSOCIATE MEMBER logo on certain materials provided they strictly observe the logo guidelines. In order to clarify possible confusion about membership type, any us of the Associate Member logo in commercial materials must also include the following information in the general conditions section "(COMPANY NAME) is an Associate Member of the United States Tour Operators Association. However, (COMPANY NAME) is NOT a participant in the USTOA $1 Million Travelers Assistance Program and is not held by USTOA to certain standards required of Active Members."

Associate Members do not participate in Active Member programs such as the USTOA $1 Million Travelers Assistance Program. Consequently, Associate Members who have an office in the U.S. and sell tour to the North American travel market are prohibited from using the Associate Member logo on any material or websites because of the increased risk of consumer confusion regarding such participation.
